Get 10x More Done with AI Coding Assistants (Without Burning Through Your Quota)

AI coding assistants like Cursor and Windsurf are game-changers—until you hit your monthly tool call limit. Most devs waste requests on tiny interactions (like "hi" → "hi"), burning through their quota faster than a poorly optimized loop.

Enter 10x-Tool-Calls, a lightweight rules setup that lets you squeeze every drop of value from your AI tool calls. Instead of restarting the chat for every task, it keeps the session alive, bundling multiple actions into a single request. Fewer wasted calls, more actual work.

What It Does

10x-Tool-Calls is a simple Python script + rules file (for IDEs like Cursor) that turns your AI assistant into a persistent task runner. After completing a job (e.g., writing code), it prompts you for the next instruction (e.g., "add comments" or "refactor this")—all within the same session.

This means:

  • One initial request starts the session.
  • Follow-up tasks consume tool calls within that request (up to ~25 per session).
  • No more wasting a full request just to say "thanks."

Why It’s Cool

  • Quota Hack: If your plan gives you 500 monthly requests (each with 25 tool calls), this lets you actually use those 25 calls instead of burning them one-by-one.
  • No Token Counting: Unlike OpenAI’s pay-per-token model, this optimizes for tool call bundling—ideal for fixed-quota systems.
  • Lightweight: Just two files (userinput.py and rules.md), no heavy dependencies.

How to Try It

  1. Grab the files: Clone the repo or copy userinput.py to your project root.
  2. Set the rules: Paste the rules.md content into your IDE’s rule config (e.g., Cursor’s .cursorrules).
  3. Run tasks interactively: The AI will now loop, asking for your next command until you stop or hit the call limit.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t revolutionary—just a smart way to exploit how tool-call quotas work. If you’re frugal with AI usage (or tired of hitting limits mid-task), it’s a no-brainer. The current version handles text only, but future updates might add file/image support.

Pro tip: Don’t use this with token-based pricing models (like raw OpenAI APIs). It’s built for quota efficiency, not token savings.

Give it a spin and stretch that monthly allowance further. Your future self (and your quota) will thank you.
